I have been into wireless surveillance cameras since I was little. I actually got my first wireless pinhole camera when I was 12. It was at the height of the Cold War, or at least long enough before the end that spy technology still seemed like the neatest thing out there. I was into it all. I built an alarm system with a breadboard kit. It would stop my sister from entering my room, or at least irritate her with a loud beep when she did. I set up a tin can telegraph with one of my friends and we used it to communicate whenever we could. But the wireless pinhole camera was the best.
Part of the problem is that I have a bit of a voyeuristic streak in me. I think that it is more and more common. As wireless surveillance systems are put up everywhere, most of us want a piece of the action. On the one hand, we resent being spied upon by the government, as well as by banks and other private institutions. On the other hand, we want the power that they have. We want to be able to see everything that everyone does. We all want a wireless pinhole camera on every corner to record the actions of our neighbors. We want a God’s eye view into the secret lives that surround us.
It wasn’t too long until I started leaving my wireless pinhole camera in various places. Wireless pinhole cameras are very easy to hide. They are so small that they can be obscured by any bush. As long as they are entrenched enough for a curious dog not to find them, you have very little risk of losing one. I even upgraded to a wide angle camera so that I could catch all of the action on a certain crowded city street simultaneously.
Soon this was not enough for me. I began to take my wireless pinhole camera to parties and clandestinely used it to spy upon my friends. I would records secret conversations. I even bought a wireless night vision camera that I would use to monitor my yard when the sun was down. What had begun as a casual interest in spy technology has become an obsession. I was even getting paranoid. Somehow, the power of having a wireless pinhole camera had gone to my head. I could not go without knowing what other people were doing when I wasn’t watching.
I have lived in an apartment building for almost six years now. I have relocated to different towns in those six years, so I have not lived in the same apartment building. However, I am getting tired of paying rent. I’m hoping that my next financial leap will be purchasing a home. In all of the time I have lived in an apartment building, I have never once had any serious issues. Sure, every so often I’ve been fed up with too much noise from neighbors or had my car egged, but that is something people who live in houses also tolerate from time to time. My current apartment building is very modern and appealing. My apartment is large and absolutely wonderful. Either my current neighbors are not as noisy as some have been or else this apartment building has better insulation in the walls.
My first experience in living in an apartment building was in college. At the time, every resident was a student and the parties and noise was very much out of control. The owner of the apartment building either didn’t notice or chose to ignore the destruction that was occurring from the chaos. I was happy to move out after a year. It amazes me that people purchase an apartment building as an investment. An investment should be taken care of and maintained. Many apartment buildings that I have lived in or visited have simply deteriorated. I’m not so sure that the banks who financed that apartment building would appreciate seeing their investment looking so shabby.
As much as some people despise living in an apartment building, there are some wonderful advantages. I love the fact that I have no lawn work whatsoever to do. I can roam about the grounds belonging to the apartment building and enjoy the outdoors without having to do any of the maintenance.
Also, there is usually some type of security. I would not live in an apartment building that did not have some type of security available. I currently have cameras and a security guard on duty at all hours. I think that gives me a stronger sense of safety. I know that where I park my car is now monitored. After having too many eggings in the neighborhood, the owner of my apartment building turned our parking lot into a more secure lot with keycards to swipe to enter and exit. Random people cannot roam through the lots anymore. I am still making it a goal to purchase a home soon. I realized that I will have to take care of my own repairs and lawn, but it will be a wise investment. I guess I need to learn how to mow before then too.
